Progress or Knot?
I will finish, I will finish, I will finish:

Observe the curling rib at the bottom - I need to rip back and decrease ten per cent before ribbing, or make it longer,or rip back and do a different edge. Think I will rip back and do a rolled edge. I could do seed stitch which would look cute in the variegated yarn, but I don't want to think that much :-)
Notice that I have put the neck stitches on a needle - need to attach yarn and pick up the rest of them.

I'd like to do a rolled edge on mine too. Any hints for a nice neat tight roll?
I think I'll do a rolled edge at the cuffs too. I'm planning to flare the sleeves slightly from the elbow to the wrist. i was thinking of doing an increase every 5 rows, the way I decreased at the upper arm. Do you think that will work?
That anonymous post was from me...hit that button too soon!
Use a needle one size smaller for you rolled edge and realize that after you wash and block it, the roll will be shorter/smaller than it is after you take it off the needles. That is, it unrolls a bit in the blocking.
The increasing rate should work fine. You can check your gauge and see how many stitches you are going to increase in the number of inches you need to knit. This will give you an idea of how wide your flare will get.
I am about 5 rows below the arm holes - I am quite proud of myself.. :)
Before picking up the neck stitches for the ribbing I did a little swatch to practice picking up stitches from a provisional cast-on, and have a question about that first stitch. Usually when casting on, I use a slip knot for the first stitch, but I didn't do that for the provisional. When I picked up the stitches, that stitch seemed to be incorrectly formed. I fiddled with it a bit, and got something acceptable but loose. How do you deal with that first stitch, in the making and in the picking up?

Yes, your first stitch is really sitting in thine air but you can rein it back in by threading the tail on a yarn needle and duplicate stitching it into the body. This will take out any extra slack in the yarn.
This seems to be an appropriate place to report progress, especially with that "I will finish" subtitle. As posted under "How're We Doing" earlier, I have gone back to the ugh-ly sweater and am halfway through binding off the bottom ribbing. I overcompensated for smaller gauge and the sweater is a little low in the underarm area. I'll do a couple of decreases there when I pick up the sleeve stitches, and have knit a pair of shoulder pads to take up a little more of the extra. Just the V-neck ribbing and the sleeves to go, and I'll be done with the second sweater.

Nobody seems to be doing much in the way of commenting or reporting here, but in case anyone is interested, I *hope* you can see my finished sweater by checking here: http://journals.aol.com/mellifur/MellifursMusings/entries/423
I honestly don't know if it's going to work or not. I hope so. (When I preview it, the last part of the URL gets cut off. If that happens when it's published, it ends /entries/423
Erica, I'm sure you've finished your sweater. Are you going to post a picture of it?
