Recovered and on a Roll
I ripped back the bottom ribbing and re-did it in stockinet for a rolled edge. Now I am using a crochet hook MUCH bigger to cast off with, I find the hook helps to pull the stitches through and the bigger size means my edge will not be too tight.

I have finished my Neckdown Jacket, photo is on my knitting blog at http://pknit.blog-city.com/
The zipper was a little traumatic.
Also, I have started the Babies Neckdown Cardigan, am almost to the sleeve division. I don't have the correct amount of pink yarn, so I will try stripes with white and lavender. It is in blog entry for 4-28
Sounds like you are enjoying the top-down way of knitting - except for the thumb pain of course :-)
I am right at the bottom part of the body to start my rolled hem. I thought I read somewhere to do a roll of purling first before starting the rounds for the roll. It helps it to keep from rolling too far up. Yes, no or forget it and follow the pattern?

Don't do a row of purl - you will be able to get rid of some of the roll when you wash and block it :-)
Hey, I finished! This was my first time and it fits perfectly! WOW! What a miracle...I would like to make one for my 3 yr old daughter in a cotton...will it be harder to work with?

You go, Girl! Congratulations on knitting your first "fits perfectly" sweater!
Some people find cotton harder to work with because it has no stretch.
Thanks Erica! So should I start with something basic like a (pantagonia cotton) hat? To see how I do with the stitches and the yarn? Anyone have a pattern I could follow? The yarn says it has 100gm and calls for a size 8-10ndls, guage 13sts=4" The pattern I found calls for a size 7dbl pt ndls and gauge:5sts=1". Please help!
Esmeralda
Try using your yarn with the smaller needles - you want to be able to get the gauge called for in the pattern.
Of course, if your gauge is a bit off, you daughter's sweater will be a bit bigger - not such a bad thing in a child's garment :-)
I'd love to join. Is it too late?
You are officially added to the list, Yamamama :-)
Erica,
my gauge is 4 1/2sts=1 with the smaller needle (7) that the pattern calls for but the hat I am making seems a bit too big and the head measurement is 21"...the circular needle is 24" and I don't know if I should go down one more size? should I frog it and start over...or just keep going? once I attain working with this cotton yarn I could start on my little girls cotton sweater like mine! I figured the hat would go pretty fast that is if I get the gauge correct! thanks for your help and insight erica!
Esmeralda
Hats should be a little smaller than head diameter so if yours fits on a 24" needle it is going to be too big - it should be worked on a 16" needle.
Just like the sweater, you can run a string through the stitches, take it off the needles and try it on - see for your self if it fits :-)
Argh. Must read directions! There I was, working away at my first sleeve, using the Magic Loop technique for the first time. I'd just about finished all the decreases and was checking the pattern for what to do next when I happened to go back and reread the directions for the part I'd just finished. Did I say finished? Do you hear the sound of frogs croaking "rippit"? I'd noted the directions before, which say to knit 5 rounds even, then decrease at the beginning and end of the sixth round, then repeat these last six rounds. But instead of doing that, I repeated the last *two* rounds. So now I'm starting all over. Oh, well!
