Top-down - love the way this Noro Iroha yarn color blocks!

Use a crocheted cast-on (look it up on the web)...make a small square. Pick-up stitches along the sides with double pointed needles. Increase at eight points - I do one in from the first stitch on each needle and then (using a marker) one in the middle of each needle. Increase every other row until the cap is as wide as you like then work even until it is as long as you like.

To make ear flaps - work short rows (look them up on the web) on two opposite needles until you are down to the tip. I finished my cap with a row of crab stitch (backwards single crochet.)

If you need more instructions than this - you will have to THINK for yourself about what you want to do :-)
